Legendary XI: Players that stayed in our heart forever
Published
8 months agoon

In the late 90s when Indian cricket was struggling to make an impact despite of having talented players in the team. The clouds of fixing allegations, corruption looming over the team made them preformed poor. Various key player was at the centre of these allegations have been made. In all these chaos when Sachin Tendulkar denied captaincy and he suggested a player who handle the team in correct manner and hence Ganguly was given the charge.
The very first thing Ganguly did was to clean the team. All the relics of past were shown the door. Fresh blood was brought into team. Yuvraj, Kaif, Zaheer,Sehwag, Harbhajan and Nehra were brought into team along with the legendary stalwarts like Sachin, Dravid, Kumble, VVS and Srinath. He single handedly cleaned the team of fixers and installed confidence in young players protecting them from any sort of malicious activities in cricket.
Ganguly captained till 2006 and throught this he made team India a very feisty side which before was humble and polite team. He’s is real Dada of Indian cricket. How can we forget his insane celebration of removing his jersey and rotating it by hand at Lords during Natwest series final. Complete gesture of dominance and aggression and intimidation. The man, god of Off side, loved by millions “Dada”
Let’s talk about the remaining gems who are the heroes of 90s generation especially. If you are not overwhelmed by that 2003 World cup Jersey then you haven’t lived your childhood if you were born in 90s.
1. Sachin Tendulkar
Do I need to mention anything about him here. If I did you will slap me hard. If you are reading this article, somewhere it is only because of great Sachin. Kuch to likhana hai to yahi likh deta hu, “God wanted to play cricket so Sachin was born”
2. Virendra Sehwag
The most chillax and fearless personality of Indian cricket. Sir ji ko aate hi first ball pe chowka maarna hi maarna hai aur 300 run six marke complete karna hai. Baap-beta wala trend shuru Karne wale yahi janaab the. His witty lines still entertain us. The powerful striker of Indian team, “Multan ka Sultan” Virendra Sehwag
3. Rahul Dravid
Whenever you says defence I will say Dravid. “The wall” of team. He’s defence is so soft that ball wasn’t even cross the end of pitch sometimes. Pareshan ho jate the bowler lekin ye deewar tutati nhi thi. Britannia bat ko famous Karne wale, Gentle, calm cricketer.
4. VVS Laxman
He was more like an Artist than a sportsman when he was batting. “He was a guy who could straight drive a ball similar to the one he has cover driven before earlier, and if he’s on song, he may roll his magic wrist to place it behind square,” said Sachin Tendulkar once. Truly the class and craft of the player. Very very Special “Laxman”
We are all in awe of the these famous “Fab Four” of Indian cricket. Each one of them has different qualities which left us astonished.
5. Mohammad Kaif
The quick and agile player which cricket ever had. He’s reflexes still surprise us. When he’s fielding, ball seldom finds his way to pass around him, only when batsman was that lucky enough otherwise dont even think that you could play Cut shot or cover drive for boundary when he’s there.
6. Yuvraj Singh
“Sankatmochak” of team literally. If anyone who can take Kaif’s place, he’s the one. His elegance while that cover drive is damn spectacular. And yeah never messed with this man otherwise he will hit six sixes in an over. Andrew Flintoff knew this very well and Stuart Broad still feels the pain given by Yuvi in South Africa.
7. Zaheer Khan
The man of complete accuracy and disciplined bowling. Though he struggled in fielding and batting but when its comes to his bowling, no one can bit him. Just watch his deliveries and specific fielding position for same delivery. Inventor of Nakal ball, “Zak”.
8. Harbhajan Singh
Remember that Eden garden test played between India and Australia where he emerged at his best. Steve Waugh still thinks, ye out of syllabus question aaya kaise. Most charming player of team India. I still feel sad for S Shreesant.
9. Ashish Nehra
His action is simply unforgettable. Brilliant bower holds a very rare record with the greatest Viv Richards of hitting the six out of the stadium at Lords. He did this the last match of the series played against England in 2002 at Lords’. This incredible record making Nehra the last player to do so at Lords’. Though India lost that match but it was still remarkable for this record by Nehra.
10. Mahendra Singh Dhoni
I know some of you desperately looking for his name in this list. I intentionally put him at last, coz I think he’s the best at handling the pressure situations and no one can do it better than him. And what could I say about this man. I literally dont have words for him. Omnipotent!
I can end up writing a whole new article on MSD! Stay tuned for next then.

In the match against RCB, Maharashtra’s talented lad shines as a new star for CSK. Leaving the trails of brilliant caliber behind, Ruturaj Gaikwad, 23 year old became a hot topic in cricket arena after this match.
His domestic debut in 2017 and since then, scored over 4700 runs across formats, 10 centuries and 23 fifties to his name. He is an Indian Cricketer, born on 31 January, 1997. A very passionate cricketer and a reliable one in a small age. He has played several matches and came out to be a good batsman. And luckily, in December 2018, he was bought by the Chennai Super Kings in the player auction for 2019 Indian Premier League. But he didn’t get the chance to play for his team that year. Every player wants to go in MS Dhoni’s team, and he got that chance to play in the middle this year.
Due to the ongoing pandemic it is not so easy to conduct IPL. After all these hardships also, the league is being conducted in UAE. But, this year has been cited tough for Rutu Gaikwad. Before starting the league he was tested positive for Covid-19, had to go into quarantine and had to take a long break. In the 2020 IPL, he was chosen to fill Suresh Raina’s spot after the experienced cricketer decided to withdraw from the 2020 IPL. A tough time for CSK as well, as the team’s thirteen members were tested positive including Ruturaj Gaikwad.
When he made his debut against Rajasthan Royals, he was not able to make any runs and was dismissed. In the next match against Delhi Capitals, he was able to make only five runs. After these two matches he dropped for a couple of matches and came with a blast against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he made an unbeaten score. And was able to make half-century. Dhoni, who had recently drawn criticism for saying youngsters in the team lacked ‘spark’, was happy that Ruturaj Gaikwad backed up his strengths. He has shown his strengths and played the shots for what he is known for!! Ruturaj Gaikwad became Man of the Match of that particular match.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was also spotted by MS Dhoni during the Ranji Trophy match against Jharkhand. He was hit by a bouncer from Varun Aaron and was in great pain, but continued to play. One more incident occurred during a game between CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders when Andre Russell was going after Chennai bowlers. Then he was the one who came up with an idea to stop Caribbean all-rounders. He told Dhoni to keep a deep square leg instead of a short fine leg. By this MS Dhoni was super impressed by his sharp cricketing brain.
The rising star of Indian cricket, Ruturaj Gaikwad, has all set to knock his finger for team India. He has brought the spark back to his team. He thanked the whole team for supporting him during the days of quarantine. It’s an awesome feeling when you do something for your team!! Wishing Rutu, a

But now Anushka took stand for herself replying to the joke made on her by Gavaskar saying that, “Mr. Gavaskar, your message is distasteful is a fact but I would love you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her of her husband’s game? I’m sure over the years you have respected the private lives of every cricketer while commentating on the game. Don’t you think you should have equal amounts of respect for me and us? I’m sure you can have many other words and sentences in your mind to use to comment on my husband’s performance from last night or are your words only relevant if you use my name in the process? Its 2020 and things still don’t change for me. When will I stop getting dragged into cricket and stop being used to pass sweeping statements? Respected Mr. Gavaskar, you are a legend whose name stands tall in this gentleman’s game. Just wanted to tell you what I felt when I heard you say this,” wrote Anushka. Thereafter twitter was flooded with tweets supporting Anushka Sharma for being trolled by Mr Gavaskar. Many famous names have joined this trend in support of Anushka. Defending his statement Gavaskar says, “I’ve not made any sexist comment. Neither have I blamed Anushka for anything. I would urge people to re-visit the clip,”
But it was found that Mr. Gavaskar was talking about the video where the couple was seen playing cricket in the building preview and was unknowingly shot on camera by a neighbour.
He referred anushka bowling virat in the same video.
Another commentator also added that there privacy should be respected.

Mumbai Indians “man for all seasons” Kieron Pollard’s scintillating strokeplay found its match in maverick Ishan Kishan as they nearly pulled off a Houdini Act before Navdeep Saini’s spectacular Super Over saw Royal Challengers Bangalore win an IPL humdinger on Monday. The small built Kishan put up a powerhouse performance scoring 99 off 58 balls with nine sixes while Pollard’s 60 off 24 saw them match RCB’s total of 201.

After 402 runs scored in an IPL game, it took a Super Over to decide the winner between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians in Dubai on Monday.
Chasing a steep target of 202, Mumbai Indians captained by Rohit Sharma didn’t look in the hunt before Kieron Pollard and Ishan Kishan stepped up and produced an incredible 119-run fifth-wicket partnership off 51 balls that levelled the scores at the end of the 20 overs. The duo’s scintillating batting display helped MI score 89 in the last five overs.
While Pollard blasted 60 off 24, it was wicketkeeper-batsman Kishan’s 99 off 58 balls that got everyone on their feet.
Just before the two teams were headed for the thrilling Super Over, Kishan was snapped in the dugout, looking visibly tired and distraught that he couldn’t get his team over the finishing line.
Bowling the Super Over for RCB, Navdeep Saini gave nothing away to Pollard and Hardik Pandya as MI could only manage 7 off the Super Over. Virat Kohli after three bad matches did the needful as Jasprit Bumrah couldn’t defend a seven-run target with India captain winning it with a last-ball boundary.
After the loss, Rohit Sharma revealed that a physically drained Ishan Kishan struggled to come out to bat again against RCB. “He (Kishan) was drained out and was not comfortable. We thought we could send him but he was not feeling fresh,” Rohit Sharma said.
