Year after year, the gaming industry in India keeps expanding tremendously. This is not surprising that India is estimated to have about Rs 6,200 crore gaming business and it is expected to grow four-fold by Rs 25,000 crore by 2022 as the country has a large percentage of youths with 300 million online gamers.

After the India and China border clashes a huge fall in the number of gamers was seen. As the Indian government banned the PUBG community on Indian premises.
Since then PUBG Corp, which is a unit of Bluehole Games is trying to fit their shoes in India.

So, it may be the happy days for game lovers as the reunion of PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds (PUBG) can be soon seen with Reliance Jio. It can be a mutually beneficial association dealing with the ban in India and bring the game back online. While PUBG will get hold of one of its largest markets, Reliance will tap into huge potential with the online gaming market in India. According to a report from Sensor Tower, PUBG has more than 175 million installations alone from India which accounts for a quarter of its installation worldwide. This alliance was already witnessed by the world in 2019 when PUBG colliated with Reliance Jio for the launch of PUBG-Lite.

Reliance Jio can be publisher and distributor in India of this popular game, as the immensely popular multiplayer game is trying to lift up the pursued blanket of a ban in Indian markets. PUBG is also looking at the Indian market with a long-term view.

With further processing, current reels are under a ban, and talks of rife between legal experts from both sides are exploring possibilities on how revenue should be split whether it is 50:50 or Jio guarantying PUBG revenues based on a fixed number of users every month to PUBG corporations. Speaking to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at ‘Future decoded CEO Summit’ held at Mumbai, Ambani described that he glimpses exponential increases in the gaming sector of India and said, “Gaming will be bigger than music, movies and television shows put together.” Displaying the game capabilities of its Jio Set Top Box Akash Ambani and Isha Ambani, Directors of Reliance said that it will be at par with leading global players globally. It was due to worsening situations Indo-China border massive chunks of Chinese apps, first 57 then 118 has been banned by Indian government. PUBG, however, decided to serve it’s relation with Tencent and announced that it would be working hand in hand with given rules of Ithe Indian government and make the comeback. However, no official statement has yet been given out either by PUBG or Reliance Jio.

Reliance Jio is more than capable of being a gaming publisher, and securing a partnership with PUBG Corp will be among the many feathers in the hat which Mukesh Ambani has won over the past few months, as the country entered and exited the world’s most stringent COVID-19 related lockdown. By the month of May itself, Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man, had lured more than $10 billion of investment for his India-based digital platform business. This included deals with Facebook Inc, Silver Lake and General Atlantic.

It is yet to be seen if the government of India agrees to lift the ban imposed upon PUBG if it secures an Indian publishing and distribution partner in the form of Reliance Jio.

Battlegrounds Mobile India- Coming Soon

Published

on

After the ban on PUBG last year, the developer of the game, Krafton, decided to roll out a separate version of the game for India with a new avatar and a new name: Battleground Mobile India.

Battlegrounds Mobile India

Battlegrounds Mobile India is currently expected to launch in India sometime in June, as suggested by some cryptic clues by the game’s social media pages earlier this month.

Battlegrounds Mobile India took no time in becoming popular. Its official release is yet to take place and the excitement among PUBG Mobile lovers is high. That is because it is the new name for PUBG Mobile, a battle royale game that needs no introduction. Krafton, the company behind PUBG, has made some concrete arrangements to ring in the debut of the game, that is as and when it happens. Those include teasers about the game and what you can expect out of it. The latest teaser has now confirmed Battlegrounds Mobile India will get the popular Erangel map. But it will be called “Erangle” on the Indian version of PUBG Mobile to avoid comparisons.

PUBG Mobile is banned in India, and to replace the popular BR title, developer Krafton recently announced the Battlegrounds Mobile India for the players. But while the game is banned, users data from account created in the country is still accessible.

While previous reports revealed that the PUBG Mobile user account and inventory would be migrated to the new Battlegrounds Mobile India BR game, the new report now suggest that the PUBG Mobile user data for an Indian account is still intact. The publication independently verified about the user data accessibility on the server.

Coming Soon

“Krafton’s PUBG Mobile does retain your data from Tencent’s PUBG Mobile. A quick look at my personal account in Krafton’s PUBG Mobile (which is still somewhat playable in India via unofficial means), revealed that all my account data accumulated over the years in Tencent’s PUBG Mobile is intact. This included rewards, statistics, and other unlockables, which I had acquired since PUBG Mobile had launched in India. Everything was intact despite the switch in publishers,” the publication claims.

Notably, Krafton is taking due diligence with Battlegrounds Mobile India privacy rules. The developer in its privacy policy listed that players who are under 18 years of age will have to get content from their parents/ guardians to play the game. Further, players under age 18 will be able to play the game only for three hours a day. The game will have in-app purchases as well. But while the PUBG Mobile India user data still being intact, the question arises as to whether the new Battlegrounds Mobile India will pose any data privacy threat. The developer is tight-lipped about the new BR title and has only revealed that will have PUBG Mobile’s popular Sanhok map. The new Battlegrounds Mobile India is widely anticipated to release on June 18.
